Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 episode 4 delivers a cathartic, visually inventive adaptation of the Maki Zenin revenge arc, earning praise for its expanded runtime and stunning action choreography.
As Jujutsu Kaisen continues its third season, the latest adaptation from studio MAPPA is turning heads across the anime community for all the right reasons. Covering the pivotal Maki Zenin focused chapters from Gege Akutami's manga, the expanded runtime of episode four gives the Perfect Preparation arc the cinematic breathing room it deserves. Rather than rushing through the heavy narrative exposition of the Culling Game, this entry dives straight into the harrowing depths of the Zenin family estate, setting the stage for a major turning point in the overarching story.
The episode centers on Maki's confrontation with her deeply toxic and misogynistic family, a conflict that reaches a heartbreaking boiling point with the tragic sacrifice of her twin sister, Mai. Utilizing her remaining energy to forge a final cursed tool, Mai leaves her sister with a singular, devastating directive to destroy everything. What follows is a masterclass in modern action choreography, featuring a revenge fueled rampage that channels pure, unrelenting fury. The fight sequences stand out not just for their kinetic energy, but for bold creative choices like shifting to striking monochrome during the showdown with the Kukuru Unit.
For followers of the series and the broader anime streaming landscape, this episode highlights how high production values can elevate source material into genuine pop culture moments. By blending raw emotional stakes with inventive visual direction, MAPPA has delivered what many are calling the most cathartic entry in the show's history.
