Retro sports fans have a new way to dive into the past. According to a recent report by IGN South Africa, Jaleco Sports has officially launched two distinct retro collections, Bases Loaded 2: Second Season and Goal! Two, available now on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. These new packages bring together iconic baseball and soccer titles from the NES, Famicom, SNES, and Super Comboy eras, giving modern players a curated trip through sports gaming history.
The baseball collection packs a serious punch with five different titles, including the original US NES release of Bases Loaded II: Second Season, its Japanese counterpart Moero Pro Yakyuu 88 Kettei Ban, and Super Nintendo era entries like Super Bases Loaded II and Super 3D Baseball. Meanwhile, the soccer collection gathers four variations of the Goal! series across regional releases from the late eighties and early nineties. Rather than just dropping raw ROMs onto modern storefronts, these releases include quality of life updates like a VHS style rewind feature, a CRT filter for authentic display aesthetics, and monthly leaderboards to spark some friendly competition.
For players who grew up dropping quarters in arcades or renting cartridges on the weekends, these collections offer a nostalgic weekend play session. At the same time, they give newer generations a fascinating look at how sports mechanics evolved across different regions.
