Jagex is launching RuneScape Reignited on December 2, introducing a fresh permanent character type with a brand-new economy, no paid progression, and ten days of free members access for all players.
Jagex is offering a clean slate for both veterans and newcomers with the upcoming launch of RuneScape Reignited on December 2. Revealed at RuneFest alongside plans for a fourth franchise MMO built in Unreal Engine, this new permanent character type introduces a fresh economy and dedicated hiscores completely free of paid progression. Reignited characters share the existing game worlds with the broader community, operating much like the popular Ironman mode while giving everyone a synchronized starting line for the massive fantasy sandbox.
The studio is sweetening the deal by giving all Reignited characters free access to members content for the first ten days after launch. According to the team at Jagex, the mode is designed to tackle the overwhelming feeling that often stops lapsed players from returning to a game with a quarter century of history. By wiping the slate clean and removing monetization shortcuts, the update aims to recapture the original spirit of early progression while letting the community experience Gielinor together from scratch.
The December 2 update is shaping up to be a massive moment for the long running franchise, packaging Reignited alongside The Adventure Guide and the next major steps in remastering the game. Beyond the live game updates, Jagex also confirmed an upcoming animated adaptation created in partnership with prominent creator Charlie MoistCr1TiKaL White. As reported by Eurogamer, the studio is clearly looking to cement the legacy of RuneScape across both traditional MMORPG spaces and modern creator platforms.
