Is This the PS Plus Game That'll Make You Forgive Sony for... Well, Everything?

Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida is hyping up *Sword of the Sea*, which is coming to PS Plus Extra, and maybe, just maybe, it'll be the game that makes your PS Plus subscription worth the money (for at least a little while).

Right, so Sony's PlayStation Plus is having a bit of a moment, yeah? I mean, let's be honest, sometimes it feels like they’re just throwing darts at a board labeled 'Games We Reckon People Might Tolerate.' But every now and then, lightning strikes. And according to the chaps over at Game Rant, it might be about to strike again.

Remember Shuhei Yoshida, the ex-PlayStation big cheese? He's got a knack for spotting the good stuff. Earlier this year, he was raving about *Blue Prince*, calling it a potential Game of the Year contender *months* before it even launched. And fair dinkum, he wasn't wrong. That game went down a treat with critics and players alike. The Game Rant article highlights that success really adds some weight to what he says, now doesn't it?

Well, Yoshida's been at it again. This time, he's singing the praises of *Sword of the Sea*, describing it as his favorite game at the Summer Game Fest Play Days event. Now, that might not be quite as grand as calling something a GOTY contender, but it's still a pretty solid endorsement. And here's the kicker: *Sword of the Sea* is hitting the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus on August 19th.

So, what is this *Sword of the Sea* malarkey anyway? Apparently, it's a bit like if *Journey* and *Tony Hawk* had a lovechild. You get to zoom around a vibrant world on a hoversword, doing tricks and battling baddies. Sounds… interesting, doesn’t it? I'm picturing a post-apocalyptic skate park meets a particularly zen sand dune.

According to Game Rant, *Sword of the Sea*'s arrival continues a rather impressive streak for PS Plus Extra. It started back in June with *FBC: Firebreak* and continued in July with *Abiotic Factor*. Getting day-one releases on PS Plus Extra isn't a given, so getting three months in a row is definitely something worth celebrating, yeah? Whether or not September keeps the party going is anyone's guess, but hopefully, we'll find out more soon!

Look, I'm not saying *Sword of the Sea* is going to magically fix all of Sony's questionable decisions (we all know there's been a few). But if it's even half as good as Yoshida reckons, it might just be the thing to distract us from the fact that we're probably paying too much for PlayStation Plus in the first place. August 19th, mark it in your calendars, mates. Let's see if this hoversword adventure lives up to the hype.
