Iron Man & Friends Assemble! But Is This Marvel Game the Hero We Need?

A new trailer for 'Marvel's Iron Man and his Awesome Friends' is out, showcasing a superhero team-up. I'm cautiously optimistic, but the gameplay snippets feel a bit too generic for my liking. Source: IGN South Africa
Right, so Marvel's chucked out a new trailer for 'Marvel's Iron Man and his Awesome Friends' (catchy, I reckon). It's basically a sizzle reel showcasing Iron Man teaming up with, you guessed it, his awesome friends. We're talking Spidey, Wolverine, and even the Fantastic Four getting in on the action. Now, I'm a sucker for a good superhero team-up, but this trailer leaves me with more questions than answers.
The blurb hypes up the story, with Tony Stark facing off against Madame Masque and some mysterious cosmic baddies. Sounds alright on paper, doesn't it? But the gameplay snippets... well, they're a bit 'generic superhero game' if you ask me. We've got Iron Man blasting baddies, Spider-Man swinging around, Wolverine... clobbering things (surprise!).
The real juicy bit, though, is the inclusion of the Fantastic Four. They even released a behind-the-scenes featurette called 'Crafting Fantastic Four' (bold title, that). It hints at some crafting mechanics and character-specific upgrades. Fair enough. I'm always up for a bit of crafting, but I’m hoping it's not just a grind-fest designed to sell us XP boosters.
What I'm really scratching my head about is the 'Awesome Friends' bit. Is this going to be a co-op game? Will we be able to switch between characters on the fly? Or are they just… there? The trailer shows them, but it doesn't really *show* them doing anything particularly awesome *together*. Missed opportunity, perhaps?
Look, I'm not saying it's going to be a stinker. I'm just saying I've seen this sort of thing before. Big name, big budget, big promises… and then the game turns out to be a bit… meh. But hey, maybe they'll pull it out of the bag. I'm always happy to be proven wrong, especially when it comes to superheroes. But for now, I'm keeping my expectations cautiously optimistic. What do you reckon, mate? Worth a pre-order, or should we wait for the reviews?
