IO Interactive has delayed 007 First Light from March to May 2026, giving the studio extra time to polish the young James Bond origin story following shifts in the broader release calendar.
IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light is moving from its original March launch to May 27, 2026. According to studio CEO Hakan Abrak, the brief two month extension gives the independent developer and publisher extra time to polish and refine the experience. As a studio handling both development and publishing duties, IO Interactive wants to ensure the game meets player expectations right out of the gate. For a high profile project introducing a younger, unpolished version of James Bond played by Patrick Gibson, that extra runway is crucial.
While scheduling adjustments are common in the AAA space, the shifting release landscape played a notable role in this decision. Spring 2026 was initially a massive logistical minefield for publishers due to the previously planned May launch window for Grand Theft Auto 6. Now that Rockstar has moved GTA 6 to November 2026, mid year releases have a much better chance to breathe without competing against the industry's biggest heavyweight. Studios are using the newly opened calendar space to prioritize launch stability over rushing to meet rigid quarterly deadlines.
Players can look forward to a fresh spin on MI6 when 007 First Light finally arrives, featuring origin stories for classic characters like M and Q alongside original faces like a villain played by Lenny Kravitz. The game is slated to launch across the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
