IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has confirmed that Hitman 4 is officially in the cards, though the studio's current focus remains on 007 First Light and upcoming co-op features for World of Assassination.
Agent 47 fans can officially breathe a sigh of relief. According to IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, a fourth installment in the modern Hitman series is definitely on the way. Speaking in a recent interview with Variety, reported by IGN South Africa, Abrak put any lingering doubts to rest by stating that more Hitman is an absolute certainty for the studio.
However, players will need to exercise some patience before getting their hands on the sequel. The studio is currently channeling its primary development energy into 007 First Light, their upcoming James Bond project. Beyond that massive undertaking, the team is still actively supporting the current ecosystem with ongoing DLC and preparing to roll out the highly anticipated co-op mode for Hitman: World of Assassination.
Abrak made it clear that any official announcements regarding Hitman 4 will not happen until the co-op update successfully lands and settles into the live environment. For a community that treats World of Assassination as a long-term sandbox rather than a disposable yearly release, pacing out the franchise makes complete sense. IO Interactive is letting its current live-service engine breathe while building out Agent 47's future behind the scenes.
