InZOI's August Update: Fixing the Sims-Killer (Maybe)?
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
*InZOI*, the Sims competitor, is getting a big August update focused on improving Zoi personalities, clarifying goals, and adding swimming – hopefully enough to reel players back in after a dip in player count. It looks like the developers are taking a crack at fixing some of the shallowness that was present at launch.
Right, so Krafton's *InZOI* – you remember, the one that was briefly threatening *The Sims*' digital dynasty? – is gearing up for a pretty substantial update in August 2025. According to a post on Steam (cheers to Game Rant for spotting it!), the devs are tackling some of the core criticisms that led to the game's player count taking a nosedive faster than a poorly optimized AAA release.
Seems like the main gripe was that the Zois (that's *InZOI*'s version of Sims, yeah?) felt a bit… samey. Like a room full of clones who all decided to wear beige. Kjun Kim, the game director, reckons this August update will dial up the personality, making each Zoi's quirks and desires more noticeable. Which, frankly, is a bloody relief. What's the point of a life sim if the digital people you're meant to be tormenting… err, nurturing… are as interesting as wallpaper paste?
But that's not all, mate. Apparently, players were also scratching their heads trying to figure out what they were actually *supposed* to be doing in the game. Key information was buried deeper than a dwarf's mithril stash, and completing goals felt about as rewarding as finding a common item in a loot box. (Sound familiar to any Web3 games, perhaps? Just sayin'...) Krafton's promising to streamline the gameplay loop and make those Zoi goals more… well, goal-oriented. Hopefully, this means less aimless wandering and more satisfying digital-life shenanigans.
Oh, and almost as an afterthought, Kjun casually dropped the bomb that *swimming* is coming as part of the Cahaya island update. Cahaya is meant to be a resort island, and swimming is a pretty essential feature. So, finally players will be able to take a dip. Fair dinkum, I'm surprised it wasn't there from the start.
So, what does this all mean? Well, it suggests that Krafton is actually listening to the players and trying to address the game's core weaknesses. Whether it'll be enough to lure back the hordes who abandoned *InZOI* for more… stimulating… virtual lives remains to be seen. But, hey, at least they're trying, which is more than can be said for some studios these days. And with a modding update planned for October, there is a lot to look forward to with this game.
