The roster of upcoming fighting games is getting a major addition when Invincible Vs launches on April 30, 2026. Developer Quarter Up and publisher Skybound Games used The Game Awards to drop a new trailer confirming the release date alongside 18 fighters at launch. The biggest surprise is the introduction of a brand new character named Ella Mental, who was created specifically for the game with direct input from comic creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker. The duo actually pulled the character name from an unused list they kept during the run of the comics, and Walker designed her visual concept while Kirkman shaped her official backstory within the universe.
Bringing Ella Mental to life required a distinct voice, and the team landed on acclaimed rapper Tierra Whack for the role. According to narrative director Mike Rogers, Whack was already a fan of the source material and connected with the character immediately, helping the development team flesh out her relationships with the rest of the cast. As a fighter, Ella utilizes a complex kit built around four elemental powers, mid-range manipulation, and charge attacks. Executive producer Mike Willett and art director Dan Eder explained that her utility includes summoning earth blocks for projectile shielding and launching water spires that can trigger full-screen crowd control states.
For players who treat fighting games as community hubs and competitive mainstays, an original addition with this level of creative backing is a strong signal of intent from Quarter Up. Rather than simply recycling the existing comic roster, the studio is expanding the canon in collaboration with the original creators while tapping into creator and music culture through high profile voice talent like Whack.
