Inside PokéPark KANTO: The First Permanent Real-World Pokémon Destination

IGN South Africa shares an early preview of PokéPark KANTO, the first permanent outdoor Pokémon theme park opening in Tokyo during the franchise's 30th anniversary.

For a franchise that has defined global entertainment for three decades, it is honestly surprising that a permanent theme park took this long. Mario and the Minions already have their massive footprints in real-world parks, but Pokémon is finally getting the permanent physical destination fans have dreamed about for generations. IGN South Africa recently went hands-on with an early preview of PokéPark KANTO, opening officially this February at Yomiuriland near Tokyo during the franchise's landmark 30th anniversary year.

While the preview took place before the rides, stage shows, and food stalls were fully up and running, the core draw of the park is already crystal clear. The experience is split primarily into two distinct zones. Pokémon Forest offers a winding woodland trail populated by meticulously crafted statues designed to make creatures feel like they are living in their natural habitats. Sedge Town channels the classic game aesthetic with a cluster of storefronts and buildings that mirror an in-universe settlement.

More than six hundred life-sized Pokémon statues are scattered across the grounds, and while they do not animate, the sheer scale of the installation brings the virtual world to life in a way that merchandise and screen time simply cannot match. For a community that treats the franchise as a lifelong social hub, this permanent spot just became an essential international destination for the next big group trip.
