Ikora's Voice Went Wonky in Destiny 2? Bungie's Rewinding Time (Sort Of)
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
Turns out Ikora Rey got a new (and very Savathun-like) voice in Destiny 2, but Bungie's already working on bringing back the original, so all's well that ends well (eventually).
Alright, Guardians, let's talk about Ikora Rey. You know, the brains of the Vanguard operation? Turns out, her voice took a bit of a detour in the recent "The Edge of Fate" update. And by 'detour,' I mean she suddenly sounded suspiciously like Savathun, The Witch Queen herself. Bit jarring, innit?
See, Gina Torres, the OG Ikora, hasn't been available lately, so Bungie drafted in Debra Wilson, who *also* voices Savathun. A clever cost-saving measure, one might think? Except it gave players the heebie-jeebies.
Bungie did warn us back in May that some voice actors for Orin, Chioma, and Ikora were having scheduling conflicts, but nobody expected Ikora to go full Hive god.
But here's the good news: Bungie's heard the cries from the Tower (and the internet) and is now "actively re-recording" Ikora's lines with Gina Torres. Hallelujah!
Now, don't expect the original Ikora to magically reappear overnight. Bungie's aiming for a "future update," but there's no firm date yet. Until then, you might run into the temporary Ikora voice (or even characters gone silent). When that happens, subtitles will be enabled for all you lore-hungry Guardians.
Interestingly, Bungie mentioned "conflicts" being resolved, which conveniently coincides with SAG-AFTRA suspending their strike over AI protections. Remember that one? Where voice actors were worried about being replaced by soulless digital copies? Yeah, that.
Speaking of the future, Bungie's got a whole "Year of Prophecy" planned, with two new expansions and a bunch of updates. Good news for free players, too – some of the content will be available to everyone.
And let’s not forget about Marathon, Bungie's revival of the classic shooter. It had a rough alpha test, and there was that whole plagiarism kerfuffle. But hey, they've delayed it indefinitely based on player feedback. Shows they're listening, right? Maybe?
So, to sum it up: Ikora's getting her voice back, Bungie's got a plan (with a few hiccups along the way), and the future of Destiny 2 (and Bungie) remains, as always, a chaotic but exciting adventure.
