Id Software announced DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, a massive expansion launching July 7. The DLC introduces a mind-bending purgatory setting, increased mobility, and a brand-new weapon called the Chain Spear.
Id Software has officially pulled back the curtain on DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, a massive upcoming expansion for the first-person shooter. First teased back in February by game director Hugo Martin, who described the project as practically a full sequel, the expansion is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, July 7, across all platforms where the base game is available. The reveal arrived during the recent Xbox Games Showcase, giving players their first proper look at the brutal new chapters ahead for the franchise.
While the base game leaned heavily into grounded and tactical combat compared to the hyper-fast momentum of DOOM Eternal, Revelations aims to inject a bit more mobility back into the Doom Slayer toolkit. The new narrative takes place inside a surreal purgatory located within the Slayer's own mind. Trapped with damaged gear, players will team up with a mysterious new ally to fight an abomination of the gods and rescue the Slayer's followers.
To help deal with the horrors inside this psychological prison, the expansion introduces the Chain Spear. This versatile new tool lets players parry incoming projectiles, deal heavy close-range damage, or throw it like a javelin. The Chain Spear will sit alongside classic and heavy hitters like the Super Shotgun, Skullcrusher, and Chainshot, giving players fresh options to experiment with as they jump back into the fray.
