Ice Spice shares a behind-the-scenes look at her role and original song in the upcoming theatrical release, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
Ice Spice is trading the charts for Bikini Bottom in the upcoming animated feature, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. According to a new behind-the-scenes featurette shared by IGN South Africa, the rap artist breaks down her role in the upcoming film and discusses the creative process behind her original track for the movie titled Big Guy. For a franchise that has continuously bridged generational gaps through music and internet culture, casting one of music's biggest modern names fits right into how major studios approach cross-media promotion today.
The film follows everyone's favorite sea sponge as he tries to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by trailing the legendary Flying Dutchman into the deepest trenches of the ocean. The voice cast brings together classic series veterans like Tom Kenny and Clancy Brown alongside heavy hitters like Mark Hamill, Regina Hall, and George Lopez. It is a massive lineup that highlights how enduring the SpongeBob universe remains as both a nostalgic anchor for Millennials and a staple of current meme culture for Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
While traditional cinema releases might feel distant from the daily routine of digital-first players who spend their free time watching Twitch streams or managing in-game ecosystems, pop culture crossovers like this heavily dominate social feeds and creator content. Directed by Derek Drymon, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. You can check out the original coverage and watch the featurette over on IGN South Africa.
