Hytale Modders Are Already Running Minecraft and Doom Inside the Sandbox RPG

Modders have successfully gotten Minecraft, Game Boy emulation, and Doom running inside Hytale using pure CPU rendering, showcasing the sandbox RPG's early technical potential.
Hytale is barely settling into its early access launch, but the game is already proving its technical flexibility in ways nobody expected. As reported by Eurogamer, a developer and modder known as Sadat Sahib has successfully got an early version of Minecraft running directly inside Hytale's world map. Rather than using standard rendering tricks or video playback, the project relies on pure CPU-based 3D rendering and pixel data manipulation, running entirely server-side without a GPU or OpenGL calls.
This proof of concept goes far beyond a simple block-building crossover. Sahib's profile shows that the same underlying technical approach has been used to emulate Game Boy and Game Color titles, boot up Windows 95, and yes, run Doom. For a sandbox RPG that is already dominating the indie space and funding its multi-year roadmap ahead of schedule, this early display of community engineering sets a high bar for what player creators will achieve.
While Hytale leans heavily into structured RPG progression and adventure mechanics compared to its sandbox peers, moments like this highlight the enduring power of open development. The title is finding massive success on PC outside of Valve's storefront, and if the modding community continues pushing these kinds of boundaries, Hytale will quickly become a primary hub for technical experiments and custom player economies.
