Humankind 2 Studio Proves Reveal Trailer Was Made by Humans and Several Farm Animals

Amplitude Studios had to release a behind-the-scenes video to prove the Humankind 2 reveal trailer was made by humans and several animals rather than AI.

When Amplitude Studios dropped the reveal trailer for Humankind 2 at Gamescom Opening Night Live, the internet immediately did what the internet does best and accused the studio of relying on AI generation. The turn-based strategy sequel features a dizzying mix of historical periods and frantic camera work, which apparently crossed the uncanny threshold for many viewers who spotted what they thought were telltale signs of generative tools. As Eurogamer reported, Amplitude quickly pushed back against those accusations by confirming the trailer relied on good old CGI, live-action filmmaking, and practical sets created in partnership with the creative agency BETC.

To put the debate to rest, Amplitude released a behind-the-scenes video detailing the actual production process, showing real human crew members building custom props and costumes. Of course, the studio jokingly noted that the "made by humankind" label overlooks the contributions of the actual animals involved, including five chickens, a pig, a snake, three horses, and a horde of rats. LiveFX handled the CGI work through traditional post-production methods rather than shortcuts, proving that sometimes high-end visual effects just look a bit surreal on first watch.

Looking past the pre-launch trailer drama, the actual game is shaping up to deliver the deep historical tinkering fans expect when it launches in 2027. Amplitude is promising an updated user interface, new progression systems, and improved visuals, which should give strategy enthusiasts plenty to chew on. It is a welcome sign of life for the studio following its split from Sega during corporate restructuring back in 2024, proving the team is fully focused on delivering a polished sequel.
