How Turok: Origins Plans to Hook a New Generation Through Co-Op

Saber Interactive is using co-op mechanics and social gameplay to introduce the classic Turok franchise to a younger generation of players in Turok: Origins.
Reviving a classic franchise is a tricky balancing act, especially when thirty years separate a new release from its N64 roots. In a recent interview at gamescom 2026 with IGN, Saber Interactive development chief Tim Willits explained that the upcoming Turok: Origins bridges this generational gap by leaning heavily into cooperative gameplay. While older fans will find plenty of nostalgic throwbacks, including the iconic Cerebral Bore gun and flexible first or third person perspectives, the core design targets modern social play. Saber knows that younger players treat gaming as a primary hangout space, meaning team dynamics are just as vital as the source material.
This strategy reflects a broader shift across the industry, where multiplayer and squad based titles continue to dominate streaming platforms and friend groups alike. Much like the chaotic squad dynamics that fueled the runaway success of Helldivers 2, Turok: Origins lets teams of three drop in together to tackle massive dinosaur bosses and experiment with progression systems like collectible Echoes. Rather than forcing players into rigid solo campaigns, the team is building an experience that functions equally well as a cinematic action game and a social hub for friends.
Scheduled to launch in spring 2027 across PC, current gen consoles, and Nintendo Switch 2, the game aims to prove that retro intellectual properties do not need to stay stuck in the past. By combining high fidelity production values with the kind of sandbox chaos that drives modern gaming culture, Saber is positioning the franchise for a completely new audience that may have never held an N64 controller.
