Epic Games is giving away a free Soft Roller pickaxe in Fortnite to any player who secures a victory royale before Monday, March 30, with items rolling out to accounts after the event ends.
Fortnite is giving players a chance to add a new cosmetic item to their lockers without spending any V-Bucks, but you will need to prove your skills on the island first. According to a recent report by Polygon, Epic Games is offering the colorful Soft Roller pickaxe entirely for free to anyone who manages to secure a victory royale over the weekend. Whether you prefer the traditional building modes or stick exclusively to Zero Build, grabbing a win before the event concludes on Monday, March 30 at 8 a.m. EDT is your ticket to the reward.
If you manage to pull off a win and check your locker immediately, you might notice that the pickaxe is not there yet. Epic Games has confirmed that the rewards will not drop instantly. Instead, all eligible players will receive the Soft Roller pickaxe deposited into their accounts on Monday shortly after the event window closes. This is a common rollout method for community rewards and weekend challenges in live service games, helping servers process the massive influx of distributed items smoothly.
Events like this are a great reminder of why Fortnite remains a dominant social hub, giving friends a fun reason to squad up over the weekend and chase that victory screen. Even if you are mostly grinding the battle pass or checking out creator maps, dropping into standard battle royale queues for a few matches is worth the effort for a free tool. Head over to Polygon to read their full guide and check out the exact time zone conversions for the event cutoff.
