Housemarque's Saros Is Getting a Major Endgame Update With Boss Rush and New Game Plus

Housemarque announced the free Zenith update for Saros, bringing a boss rush mode, New Game Plus with run modifiers, online leaderboards, and accessibility features later this year.

Housemarque is bringing a massive free update to Saros later this year, addressing player requests for a more substantial endgame following the sci-fi shooter's launch on PlayStation 5. Revealed during PlayStation's recent State of Play broadcast, the Zenith update introduces two major additions to the game. The first is Overlord Rush, a dedicated boss rush mode that challenges players to defeat the game's toughest bosses back to back while competing for spots on online leaderboards. This mode nods directly to Housemarque's arcade roots before the studio shifted toward narrative-driven experiences.

The second major addition is Eclipse Layers, which functions as the game's version of New Game Plus. Rather than simply scaling up enemy health pools, Eclipse Layers allows players to keep building protagonist Arjun Devraj's abilities while tackling a significantly harder version of Carcosa. The mode also introduces run-altering Carcosan Modifiers, hidden secrets, and fresh trophies to hunt down, giving veterans strong incentives to dive back into the campaign.

Beyond adding tough challenges for dedicated players, the Zenith update also focuses heavily on accessibility and player choice. Housemarque is introducing gyro aiming, high-contrast visual options, and a game speed adjustment tool to help more players navigate the frantic combat. Between competitive leaderboards, a rewarding progression loop, and these new customization features, the Zenith update is shaping up to be a definitive second phase for the PS5 title.
