NCSoft says a PlayStation release for Horizon Steel Frontiers is up to Sony, as the upcoming MMO spin-off is currently only announced for PC and mobile.
When NCSoft recently pulled back the curtain on Horizon Steel Frontiers, the upcoming multiplayer survival adventure set in the popular machine-hunting universe, the reveal left a lot of players scratching their heads. Despite the Horizon franchise cementing itself as one of Sony's heavy-hitting pillars with tens of millions of copies sold across consoles and PC, the new MMO spin-off was initially confirmed exclusively for PC and mobile platforms. Naturally, the community immediately questioned the glaring omission of a PlayStation release.
Addressing the flood of inquiries, executive producer Lee Song explained to Japanese outlet 4Gamer that the team actually has no technical or creative reason to skip Sony's hardware. In fact, Song noted that a PlayStation port is something the studio would love to pursue, but it is not a call they can make on their own. That phrasing strongly hints that the decision rests entirely with Sony, prompting industry speculation and requests for clarification from major outlets like Eurogamer.
For a cross-platform audience that expects major franchise entries to land everywhere at once, platform exclusivity deals continue to shape where and how we play. Guerrilla's studio leadership recently shared that the team always envisioned Horizon as a multiplayer experience from day one, making the current platform restriction even more curious for fans eager to tackle large scale raids with friends. As discussions between the developers and platform holders presumably continue, players on console are left waiting to see if Deathlands will eventually open up beyond PC and mobile screens.
