Holy LEGO Batmobile, Batman! 'Batman Forever' Gets Brickified and It's... Surprisingly Awesome?

IGN South Africa checked out the LEGO 'Batman Forever' Batmobile, and despite my initial skepticism towards Schumacher-era Batman, it sounds like a surprisingly well-designed set that captures the bizarre-yet-sleek aesthetic of the 90s movie. Maybe it's time to dust off the ol' LEGO bricks, eh?
Right, so IGN South Africa (cheers, mates!) took a crack at the new LEGO 'Batman Forever' Batmobile, and I gotta admit, I was ready to roll my eyes. Schumacher's Batman films? Bit of a mixed bag, weren't they? But fair dinkum, this LEGO set actually looks… pretty damn cool.
We're talking about the Batmobile from the 1995 flick, you know, the one where Val Kilmer donned the pointy ears and fought Jim Carrey's Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face. Feels like a lifetime ago, doesn't it? And while I'm still waiting for a decent Riddler minifig (c'mon LEGO, give the people what they want!), this set does deliver on the sleek, almost unsettlingly smooth, aesthetic of that era's Batmobile.
IGN's build clocked in at around 2.5 hours, spread across 909 pieces. Not a weekend-long epic, but enough to keep you occupied while you rewatch the movie (or, you know, something actually good). Apparently, the build uses some surprisingly clever techniques, especially in the chassis. It's aimed at the 12+ age group, but don't let that fool you – this isn't your toddler's Duplo Batmobile.
One of the highlights, according to IGN, is the detail in the wheel wells. They really nailed that aerodynamic, almost organic, look. And yes, the nose of the car pops up to reveal those (slightly ridiculous) machine guns, just like in the movie. The cockpit is also surprisingly detailed, though apparently the windshield can be a bit of a pain to remove. Which, honestly, sounds about right for a vehicle designed by a billionaire with a serious identity crisis.
The whole thing is finished off with a Val Kilmer Batman minifigure and a display stand, complete with the Riddler's logo. Printed, not a sticker, which is a definite win. Because let's be honest, who actually enjoys applying those fiddly little things? No one, that's who.
Now, I'm not usually one for movie tie-in merchandise, but this LEGO Batmobile actually looks like it could be a fun build and a decent display piece. Plus, it's a good excuse to revisit a film that's… well, let's just say it's memorable. And hey, if nothing else, it'll give you something to do while you're waiting for the next actually good Batman movie. Sound fair?
