Hold Up! Mario Kart Tour Just Got Resurrected (Thanks to the Switch 2, Apparently)

Surprise! Nintendo's *Mario Kart Tour* is getting a content update out of nowhere to celebrate the release of *Mario Kart World* on the… Switch 2? Color me slightly confused, but hey, new karts are new karts.
Alright, buckle up, kart fans! Remember when Nintendo basically put *Mario Kart Tour* out to pasture back in 2023, declaring no more new content? Yeah, well, turns out they've pulled a sneaky little U-turn – and the reason's a bit of a head-scratcher.
According to Eurogamer, the mobile racer is getting a surprise injection of fresh content thanks to a crossover event with *Mario Kart World*, the latest iteration of the franchise… on the yet-to-be-officially-announced Switch 2! I know, right? Bit weird, innit?
This “special campaign,” dubbed the “Sunshine Tour,” is set to unleash mechanic-themed Mario and Luigi (because why not?) along with four shiny new karts onto the *Tour* track. The whole shebang kicks off on July 23rd and runs until August 6th. So, if you've still got *Mario Kart Tour* lurking on your phone, now's the time to dust it off.
You can check out the trailer on YouTube, and it's… well, it's *Mario Kart Tour*. If you loved it before, you'll probably dig this. If you were less enthused, this probably won't change your mind.
*Mario Kart Tour*, for those who missed the mobile mayhem, launched in 2019 and quickly became a cash cow for Nintendo. We're talking a cool $293 million by September 2022! However, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. The initial gacha system, where you basically gambled for characters and kart parts, didn't sit well with everyone. Nintendo eventually scrapped that and replaced it with a more straightforward item shop – a move I reckon was long overdue. (Seriously, who thought loot boxes were a good idea in a *Mario* game?!)
Now, about this *Mario Kart World* on the Switch 2... Eurogamer seemed to enjoy it. But it still sounds like Nintendo's using *Mario Kart Tour* to promote a game on a console that hasn't even been officially unveiled yet. Bit backwards, don't you think?
But hey, free content is free content! Maybe this is a sign of more mobile support from the Big N. Or maybe it's just a one-off. Only time will tell, eh?
