Hold on to Your Souls, Mates: New Indie Publisher Brews Up Horror Potions Featuring Demon Billionaires and Burning Houses

A new indie publisher, Black Lantern Collective, is conjuring up a slate of deliciously dark horror games, including one where you literally play poker dice against demon billionaires. Colour me intrigued!
Right, so Eurogamer's been sniffing around (cheers to them for the scoop!) and it seems a couple of horror maestros, Ted Hentschke (ex-DreadXP) and Jakub Bałuszek-Sobolewski, have stirred up something wicked in their cauldrons: Black Lantern Collective, a new indie publisher entirely devoted to the dark and spooky. Described as a haven for "chills, thrills, and unease," they're not messing about – they've launched with ten game announcements, and frankly, they sound bonkers in the best way.
First out the gate is *Captum Mortum* (due this August), a retro-inspired psychological horror romp through a tower of forgotten nightmares. Think old-school dungeon crawler meets survival horror, apparently. Sounds right up my alley.
But the real madness? *Children of Saturn*, a first-person narrative adventure that involves… tagging billboards and watching your house go up in flames. I mean, who *hasn't* felt like that some days, eh? Then there's *Dead Finger Dice: A Billionaire Killing Game*. Yep, you read that right. It’s rogue-like dice battling against demon billionaires. Because sometimes you just need to roll the bones against the forces of pure, distilled greed. Finally, if you are after something to play right now, *Muffles' Life Sentence* is already available. This “darkly quirky” RPG is set in a prison where inmates are… remade to match their crimes. Crikey, that's dark.
Honestly, it's refreshing to see a publisher so laser-focused on horror and willing to embrace the weird. It's a brave move in a world of endless sequels and safe bets. Whether any of these games become genre-defining classics remains to be seen, but Black Lantern Collective has certainly piqued my curiosity. Bring on the scares, I reckon!
(Speaking of scares, Eurogamer also mentioned the 2024 Horror Game Awards, with *Silent Hill 2 Remake* bagging the big one. No surprises there, eh?)
