Hogwarts Legacy is currently available as a free weekly giveaway on the Epic Games Store following a surprise reveal at The Game Awards.
The Game Awards always brings a heavy wave of trailers and release dates, but Epic Games managed to steal a bit of the spotlight with a holiday surprise. Avalanche Software's massive 2023 open world RPG Hogwarts Legacy is currently available to claim completely free on the Epic Games Store. Epic kept the identity of the giveaway under wraps leading up to the show by replacing the usual weekly store thumbnail with a mystery present graphic.
This drop marks the official kickoff for the store's heavily anticipated holiday giveaway season. Epic traditionally uses the weeks leading into the new year to hand out a string of notable titles, previously surprising players with heavy hitters like Control, Dredge, and Sifu. Picking up the game is as straightforward as logging into your Epic account and claiming it before the window closes.
While the giveaway offers a massive single player experience at zero cost, the title continues to draw complex community discussions surrounding its creator and ongoing cultural debates. Even so, the promotion guarantees a massive influx of new players stepping into the common rooms for the first time. If you want to add the game to your library, you have until Thursday, December 18 at 11 a.m. EST to claim it before the next mystery title takes its place.
