Hideo Kojima has endorsed a new manga titled Miharu's Seat of War, which features striking thematic and character similarities to the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
When Hideo Kojima spotlights a new piece of media, the gaming community pays attention, especially if it involves tactical espionage and elite sharpshooters. In a recent recommendation covered by Polygon, the legendary developer highlighted a manga titled Miharu's Seat of War, written by Hamada Gouten. The story centers on a young female sniper navigating a fictional third world war in a devastated, occupied Japan. For anyone who spent hundreds of hours tracking targets in Metal Gear Solid, the thematic overlap is immediate and striking.
The narrative follows Miharu, a gifted young sniper on a quest for personal revenge, who teams up with a cynical former marksman named Shou. According to reporting from Polygon, their dynamic feels like a direct homage to classic Kojima archetypes. Shou acts as a goofy, glasses-wearing spotter with a ridiculous afro, serving as a tactical guide to a stoic younger fighter much like Otacon supporting Solid Snake. The series balances heavy geopolitical themes about the realities of war with surprisingly heartwarming moments, including Miharu treating a stuffed pig plush named Buu-chan as a valued battlefield companion.
Beyond the obvious aesthetic parallels to characters like Sniper Wolf and Quiet, the manga explores deeper questions about soldiers, trauma, and found families that define the best political thrillers in gaming. While the series is currently available in Japanese on Manga One with English fan translations circulating online, it is quickly becoming a must-read for fans waiting for the next major stealth action fix. For a community that treats storytelling in games as high art, checking out Kojima's latest obsession is an easy recommendation. Original reporting can be found at Polygon.
