An upcoming common card from Magic: The Gathering's Marvel Super Heroes set is already sparking ban discussions after players uncovered a turn-two infinite damage combo using Hawkeye's Bow.
Magic: The Gathering is gearing up for its latest Universes Beyond crossover, bringing Marvel Super Heroes into the fray. While players are understandably hyped to build decks around heavy hitters like Iron Man and Black Panther, a humble common card from the set is already dominating the community conversation. Polygon reports that Hawkeye’s Bow, a one-mana equipment card, is threatening to completely upend multiple formats thanks to a devastating infinite combo discovered well before the set's official release.
The culprit behind the impending meta shift is a classic interaction with Seeker of Skybreak. Because Hawkeye’s Bow deals one damage to each opponent whenever the equipped creature becomes tapped, pairing it with the self-untapping elf creates an infinite damage loop. Players can pull this off as early as turn two with the right mana acceleration, driving the card's price on TCGplayer past five dollars and triggering immediate community discussions about emergency bans in formats like Pauper and Commander.
Wizards of the Coast is certainly aware of the situation. Gavin Verhey, principal game designer and Pauper Council member, noted that the development team is actively monitoring the interaction ahead of scheduled format updates. While similar two-card combos have historically forced quick bans to preserve meta health, designers are currently weighing whether players have enough removal options to weather the storm. For now, deckbuilders eyeing the new Marvel crossover will need to pack plenty of interaction to handle the incoming wave of archer-fueled chaos.
