Harry Potter is coming to Fortnite, and Hogwarts Legacy is temporarily free on the Epic Games Store following a major announcement at The Game Awards 2025.
The Wizarding World is making a massive play for the gaming ecosystem this holiday season. During The Game Awards 2025, Epic Games dropped a double feature announcement revealing that Harry Potter is officially headed to Fortnite, while Avalanche Software's massive hit Hogwarts Legacy is currently available to claim completely free on the Epic Games Store until December 18. The sudden rush for the free PC title immediately caused traffic spikes that slowed down the storefront, proving the enduring pull of the franchise for players looking to expand their digital libraries.
This move ties into a broader strategy by Epic Games to cement its platform as a central hub for major pop culture crossovers. Fortnite continues to evolve into an all-encompassing virtual hangout space where players across console, PC, and mobile expect to see their favorite franchises collide. With leaks and announcements pointing to additional upcoming collaborations like Sonic the Hedgehog, Persona, and Tetris for future seasons, Epic is keeping creator streams and community chatter at an all-time high.
For players, this means another major IP is successfully bridging the gap between traditional single-player experiences and multiplayer live-service hubs. Whether you are grabbing the free PC copy of Hogwarts Legacy to explore the wizarding world on your own terms or saving up V-Bucks for the inevitable arrival of iconic characters in Fortnite, it is a solid week for franchise fans. Just be prepared for the digital storefront traffic to settle down as the holiday rush levels out. Source: IGN South Africa
