Guerrilla Games Sets Up Playtest Weekend for Horizon Hunters Gathering

Guerrilla Games has announced a limited weekend playtest for Horizon Hunters Gathering, running from February 27th to March 1st on PC and PS5, overlapping directly with Bungie's Marathon server slam.

This weekend is turning into a busy few days for live service testing. According to a report by Rock Paper Shotgun, Guerrilla Games has locked in the dates for the first playtest of Horizon Hunters Gathering. Running from February 27th to March 1st, the upcoming session overlaps directly with Bungie hosting its server slam for Marathon. Players hoping to dive into the robotic dinosaur action will need to sign up through the official PlayStation beta program, though admission is not guaranteed and additional testing phases are already planned for later this year.

Getting into the test comes with a few strict limitations. Sessions are restricted to specific daily time windows, running from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM CET in Europe and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST in North America. Participants on both PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 will get a limited slice of content, including three playable characters, one explorable zone, a social hub, a campsite customization area, and two modes in the form of the wave-based Machine Excursion and the Hades-inspired Cauldron Descent.

While the shift toward a multiplayer live service framework marks a major departure from the single-player roots of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, details from the weekend will likely stay quiet due to standard confidentiality agreements. Scheduling two high-profile live service tests for the exact same weekend is a curious move by Sony. Even so, this early hands-on gives the community its first real look at how Guerrilla plans to translate its mechanical fauna into a shared social experience.
