Grand Theft Auto 6 has won the Most Anticipated Game award at The Game Awards for the second consecutive year, adding to a growing collection of pre-release accolades that highlights the unprecedented hype surrounding Rockstar's upcoming title.
Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to rewrite the playbook on pre-release hype. During The Game Awards 2025, Rockstar Games claimed the Most Anticipated Game trophy for the second year in a row, besting a stacked lineup of heavy hitters that included titles like The Witcher 4 and Marvel's Wolverine. This follows a similar victory at the 2024 ceremony, carving out a rare back-to-back streak that few titles ever manage to pull off before even hitting store shelves. The momentum is not isolated to a single event either, as the game also secured the Most Wanted Game crown at the Golden Joystick Awards across both 2024 and 2025.
This sustained enthusiasm speaks volumes about the sheer gravity of the franchise in modern gaming culture. By the time the sequel finally lands, players will be looking at a thirteen-year gap since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. While repeated development cycles and shifting release windows would normally drain momentum for most projects, the constant drip feed of expectations and community speculation has only fueled the fire. Rockstar is leaning heavily on the philosophy of taking the time necessary to deliver a generational leap, and players are responding by keeping the spotlight firmly fixed on the horizon.
Ultimately, winning awards for a game you cannot yet play highlights a fascinating quirk of modern industry marketing and community buildup. Today's players are well accustomed to long development pipelines, digital pre-orders, and years of ecosystem anticipation before a disc or download hits their platform of choice. As we look ahead, the real challenge for Rockstar will be converting this unprecedented wave of hype into an experience that satisfies a global player base that has been waiting over a decade for the next chapter.
