Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 features a map twice the size of GTA 5 and an 80-hour main campaign set across the state of Leonida.
Rockstar Games has dropped a massive wave of details regarding Grand Theft Auto VI, confirming that its open-world map will dwarf its predecessor. According to development head Rob Nelson in an interview with creator TGG, the map spans an area twice the size of GTA 5 and three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2. Vice City alone is twice the size of Los Santos, while the surrounding region scales up elevenfold. Players will explore the Florida-inspired state of Leonida, which features six distinct locations ranging from urban Vice City to the Grassrivers swamps and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Along with the staggering geographic scale, players can expect a substantial time commitment to see the game through. Nelson noted during a conversation with the New York Times that his recent playthrough of the main story and core narrative side objectives took roughly 80 hours. Given the sheer density of the world, which includes revamped wanted systems, realistic driving mechanics, and deep relationship loops, completionists and content creators will likely spend hundreds of hours uncovering everything Leonida has to offer.
This latest information drop, which included a high-profile showcase on Netflix, arrives as Rockstar attempts to steady the ship following recent leaks and ongoing industry scrutiny. As Eurogamer notes, the studio is leaning hard into a distinct brand of awkward ultra-realism with this entry. For a community that treats these shared virtual spaces as long-term digital homes, the massive canvas promises plenty of room for emergent gameplay, streaming content, and deep exploration when it finally drops.
