GTA 6 Fans Push Back Against Rockstar Over a $400 Collector's Set That Omits the Game

GTA 6 fans are expressing widespread frustration over a new $400 collector's set that omits the game entirely, drawing unfavorable comparisons to past Rockstar collector's editions.
Rockstar Games recently dropped details on a massive $400 collector's set for Grand Theft Auto 6, but the community reaction has been anything but celebratory. Players across social media and Reddit are pointing out that this high price tag fails to deliver adequate value, especially given that the bundle does not include an actual copy of the game. Premium items like custom Oakley sunglasses pushed the overall manufacturing cost up, yet the absence of a physical disc, steelbook, or even digital game access has left even the most dedicated fans hesitant to open their digital wallets.
This move has triggered heavy comparisons to past releases, including the collector's box for Red Dead Redemption 2, which retailed at a much more reasonable $100 price point and featured thoughtful in-game replicas. Players note that previous generations of Rockstar titles routinely offered comprehensive special editions well under the $150 mark that bundled physical media, maps, and exclusive items together. With GTA 6 opting for a code-in-a-box approach for its physical release, the missing game disc in a $400 bundle feels like a tipping point for physical collectors who remember getting far more for their money a decade ago.
While superfans can still look forward to alternative extras like limited edition DualSense controllers and vinyl soundtracks, the community frustration highlights a growing friction between modern monetization strategies and player expectations. As digital economies, battle passes, and high-priced merch bundles become the industry standard, players are increasingly vocal when premium pricing outpaces tangible worth. IGN notes that questions remain regarding whether standard physical boxes will still feature the iconic printed map, leaving fans waiting for official clarification from Rockstar as launch approaches.
