Ghostrunner Developer Moves Valor Mortis Out of Crowded September Window

Ghostrunner developer One More Level has delayed Valor Mortis from late September to October 13 to escape a dangerously overcrowded autumn release calendar ahead of GTA 6.
The gaming calendar for late 2026 is turning into a massive logistical puzzle. As developers scramble to avoid the looming gravitational pull of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, the weeks leading up to it have filled up with an unprecedented volume of major releases. Recognizing that September is now dangerously overcrowded, developer One More Level has decided to step out of the traffic jam. The studio has pushed the release of its upcoming first-person Soulslike, Valor Mortis, from September 24 to October 13 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Studio representatives acknowledged the reality of the situation openly, noting that while partner showcases lock in dates weeks ahead of time, the sheer density of the autumn schedule made a shift necessary to give players and their wallets some breathing room. Rather than getting lost in the noise of a packed month, the team is using the extra weeks to refine the experience based on player feedback from a newly launched Steam demo. That playable vertical slice gives a solid taste of the alternate history setting, dropping players into a supernatural plague-ridden version of the Napoleonic Wars where dead soldiers of the Grande Armée rise as horrific abominations.
For players trying to map out their gaming budget and time for the rest of the year, dodging the September rush is a welcome move. Valor Mortis already showed real promise during hands-on previews last year, combining fast-paced first-person action with the demanding difficulty curve typical of the genre. With the release window now secured in the quieter space of mid-October, the game has a much better chance to capture the community attention it deserves without forcing players to choose between half a dozen major titles on payday. Original reporting by Matt Wales over at Eurogamer details the full schedule shift.
