Ghost Recon Marks 25 Years With New Game Playtests, Wildlands Updates, and Freebies

Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ghost Recon by announcing playtests for a new tactical entry, dropping a major visual and content update for Wildlands, and giving away Future Soldier.

Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Recon franchise by opening applications for closed playtests on a brand new tactical entry in the series. According to live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa, the upcoming title aims to deliver tactical action, large scale operations, and credible military storytelling while staying true to the core identity of the Ghost Unit. Fans can sign up through a newly launched insider programme to secure a spot in these upcoming early tests.

Alongside the news of a future installment, Ubisoft is breathing new life into older catalog titles as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun. Ghost Recon Wildlands is receiving a substantial patch featuring the return of the classic Predator themed mission alongside fresh Last Rites content. The update also brings a technical overhaul targeting 4K resolution with improved lighting, enhanced distance rendering, and customizable world settings that let players tweak weather and enemy behavior.

To round out the anniversary celebrations, players can claim a free digital copy of 2012 fan favorite Ghost Recon Future Soldier through Ubisoft Connect until August 13th, though online multiplayer servers for that specific title remain permanently offline. This anniversary push comes at a crucial time for the franchise following the rocky launch of Breakpoint and the cancellation of the free to play project Frontline, giving the community plenty of reasons to revisit the tactical sandbox with their squads across console and PC.
