Genki Unveils the Over-Engineered Manta Controller with Built-In OS

Genki has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Manta, a feature-packed premium controller that includes a built-in operating system, customizable display, and advanced inputs for PC and console players.

Genki has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Manta, a high-end gamepad that packs a full operating system and a color display directly into the hardware. Priced at $279 for retail, the controller targets cross-platform players on PC, mobile, and Nintendo systems by offering a massive spec sheet of cutting-edge features. These include TMR magnetic sticks with adjustable tension, Hall effect triggers with multiple actuation modes, and maglev haptics that push past traditional rumble motors. While the kitchen-sink approach might seem excessive at first glance, the hardware manages to justify its ambition through clever engineering choices.

The standout feature is MantaOS, which runs on an internal Raspberry Pi processor and handles all profile switching, macro recording, and RGB customization right on the device screen without needing companion software. The built-in display also doubles as an on-the-fly QWERTY keyboard or a gyro-controlled mouse input, making it much easier to navigate Windows desktops and game launchers from the couch. Advanced users can even program custom macros that track precise analog stick paths and trigger pressure, or load homebrewed apps onto the controller's internal storage.

The Kickstarter campaign has already surpassed its initial funding goal by a wide margin, proving there is a strong appetite among enthusiasts for premium hardware. Early backers secured lower tier pricing, though retail units will eventually command a hefty investment. As cross-platform gaming and digital setups become more complex, hardware that bridges the gap between console convenience and PC utility continues to find a passionate audience among players who want ultimate control over their gear.
