Gears of War: E-Day launched in early access without classic features like chainsaw duels and private lobbies, but The Coalition promises these elements may return post-launch or in future titles.
Gears of War: E-Day has officially touched down for early access players across console and PC, bringing plenty of hype alongside a few noticeable omissions. Eagle-eyed fans jumping into the latest entry quickly realized that several series staples, including chainsaw duels, meat shields, private lobbies, and classic weapons, are missing from the current build. According to a statement from developer The Coalition, building the gameplay sandbox entirely from scratch to unify the campaign, PvE, and PvP experiences meant certain legacy elements could not make the initial launch window.
Players do not need to panic about the permanent loss of their favorite mechanics, however. The studio clarified that these features are not gone from the franchise for good and could return either through post-launch updates or in a future title. This early access release also kicked off the game's very first eight-week season, with ranked PvP modes scheduled to drop shortly before the broader general release opens the servers to everyone else.
As reported by Eurogamer, the studio is also actively monitoring player feedback regarding weapon handling, specifically addressing how the iconic Gnasher shotgun performs. Balancing modern combat innovation with the raw, visceral feel that long-time fans expect is a delicate tightrope walk for any franchise revival. With the full launch right around the corner, community reception to these gameplay adjustments and the missing features will likely dictate how quickly those updates roll out.
