As Pokemon continues its year-long thirtieth-anniversary celebration, Game Freak has announced a massive three-volume art book collection covering the visual history of the entire franchise. Set to launch in Japan on December 18, 2026, through publisher Overlap, the collection spans roughly 1,500 total pages across three B5-sized books. Each volume will cost around 35 dollars and is supervised directly by The Pokemon Company and Game Freak.
The first volume tackles the foundational eras from Red and Green up through HeartGold and SoulSilver, while the second volume focuses on the Nintendo DS and 3DS generations. The third volume brings the retrospective up to date by covering the Nintendo Switch era, including titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Fans can expect an exhaustive look at the franchise's evolution, featuring vintage sprites, modern 3D assets, promotional illustrations, and previously unreleased design concepts.
Beyond just looking at past artwork, each volume includes in-depth interviews with key Game Freak creators to offer a behind-the-scenes look at three decades of monster-catching history. As players look forward to future open-world entries on the horizon, this archival release gives the community a comprehensive way to celebrate how far the series has come since its Game Boy origins.
