Hidetaka Miyazaki reassures fans that FromSoftware's recent multiplayer projects are just a coincidence and the studio remains dedicated to single-player games.
In a recent interview with IGN covered by Eurogamer, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki addressed the studio's current multiplayer focus, explaining that the back-to-back development of Elden Ring: Nightreign and the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods was purely coincidental. Miyazaki noted that while building multiplayer titles like the PvPvE-focused Duskbloods has been an engaging creative outlet for ideas that never fit traditional single-player frameworks, spending extended time in the multiplayer space ultimately leaves the team eager to return to their solo roots.
The studio's last major solo release was 2022's massive hit Elden Ring, making these current network-test-driven projects a distinct shift for a team historically famous for solitary, atmospheric campaigns and asynchronous co-op. Miyazaki also shed light on the partnership with Nintendo for The Duskbloods, praising the platform holder for stepping in to help solve a classic FromSoftware hurdle. Nintendo's input has reportedly resulted in much stronger onboarding and tutorial systems, helping smooth out the notoriously steep learning curves that have defined past Soulsian releases.
As the community prepares for the upcoming network test phases and looks ahead to a tentative release window, the studio's stance offers plenty of reassurance for players who prefer a traditional solo journey. While it remains to be seen how the game navigates a crowded late-year release schedule, Miyazaki's comments make it clear that FromSoftware views these multiplayer experiments as exciting deviations rather than a permanent departure from the single-player epics that defined their modern legacy.
