Konami dropped a new trailer for Suikoden: The Anime at Anime Expo, showcasing slick mixed 2D and 3D animation, new cast members, and an October premiere date.
Konami is bringing one of the most beloved entries in its classic role-playing catalog to the screen, and the latest preview proves the project is shaping up nicely. During Anime Expo over the weekend, a brand-new trailer for Suikoden: The Anime debuted, giving fans a deeper look at the upcoming adaptation of 1998's Suikoden 2. Clocking in at just over a minute, the footage highlights early moments between main characters Riliu and Jowy, showing off a smooth visual blend of 2D and 3D animation that moves well past traditional nostalgia bait.
The adaptation is leaning into serious talent behind the scenes, featuring a creative team with heavy-hitting credits like Attack on Titan. The new trailer also brought official word on the show's opening theme, featuring amazarashi's song "Kanaashimi Sae Otonobite," alongside a fresh wave of voice cast additions including Jin Yamanoi, Miyuko Sawashiro, and Kodai Sakai. For players who experienced the recent 2025 remaster bundle, seeing these characters brought to life with modern production values feels like a natural extension of the franchise's enduring legacy.
For now, the premiere is locked in for this October in Japan, with Konami kicking things off early by screening the first three episodes as a theatrical compilation film in ten Japanese theaters starting August 21. International audiences are still waiting on official word regarding a global release date. Longtime fans are already curious to see how the adaptation handles the iconic pool of 108 recruitable characters from the source material, setting up what could be a massive treat for JRPG enthusiasts if the studio pulls it off.
