Fortnite's global return to the Apple App Store has generated 3.4 million downloads in its first week, nearly matching its 2018 launch numbers and providing a massive boost to daily active users.
Fortnite has officially made its dramatic return to the Apple App Store on a global scale, and the initial numbers show just how vital mobile platforms are to the battle royale giant. According to data shared by GamesIndustry.biz via AppMagic and originally reported by Eurogamer, the game pulled in 3.4 million downloads during its first week back on iOS. This nearly matches the historic 3.7 million figure from its original 2018 launch week and ranks as the fourth-strongest week in the game's entire history on Apple hardware.
The global relaunch also triggered a massive spike in daily engagement. Daily installs jumped by over 1,400 percent, moving from roughly 19,000 on May 18 to nearly 290,000 on May 19, before peaking at 674,000 daily downloads on May 23. That peak nearly touches the all-time daily record of 764,000 set during the original iOS debut and comfortably beats previous regional high points, proving that mobile players are more than ready to jump back into the ecosystem.
While these figures clearly justify Epic Games fighting so hard against storefront restrictions and platform taxes, the massive mobile revival arrives during a complicated transitional period for the studio. Epic has faced recent creative hurdles and widespread layoffs, meaning that a massive influx of iOS players is only one piece of a much larger puzzle. As Epic continues pushing toward broader cross-platform ambitions, including plans for unified digital wardrobes across Unreal Engine projects, this mobile resurgence gives the studio a much-needed financial and cultural win.
