Fortnite has launched a 24 hour April Fools update featuring finger guns and shoulder riding, marking the game's first major patch since recent layoffs at Epic Games.
Epic Games has rolled out a new temporary update for Fortnite across Battle Royale, Reload, and Blitz. The fresh content includes a comedic finger guns weapon, big head modifiers, and shoulder riding mechanics. According to a report by IGN South Africa, these additions are scheduled to last for just 24 hours as part of the game's annual seasonal humor.
This update arrives shortly after a difficult period for the studio. Last month, Epic Games implemented major layoffs affecting more than 1,000 employees. The sudden shift in tone from corporate restructuring to lighthearted community content highlights the complex reality of modern live service development, where production schedules and content roadmaps continue running even as internal teams face severe disruption.
For players, the temporary mechanics offer a brief moment of absurdity before the game shifts toward its next major crossover event. As digital economies, battle passes, and rapid content drops remain the baseline for the industry, updates like this remind us how live service games rely on constant engagement. Still, the contrast between the studio news and the playful patch notes underscores the human cost behind our daily entertainment.
