Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Lobbies Are Reportedly Overrun With AI Bots

Polygon reports that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 has significantly increased the number of AI bots in standard matches, leaving real players facing mostly automated lobbies until the final circles.

Fortnite has always balanced accessible onboarding with high-skill competitive play, but the launch of Chapter 7 Season 4 has tilted that balance in a strange direction. According to recent findings from community tracking tools and reported by Polygon, standard Battle Royale matches are seeing a massive surge in AI bot counts. While previous seasons usually hosted around sixty real players per match, recent data suggests that number has plummeted to roughly twenty-five real players in some lobbies, leaving the rest of the island populated by automated opponents.

Epic Games originally introduced bots back in 2019 as a way to help newcomers learn the ropes and improve their skills without getting instantly eliminated. However, flooding lobbies with seventy-plus bots creates a peculiar gameplay loop where players wander through empty matches, easily dispatch computer opponents, and then get completely blindsided by actual human players in the final circles. Instead of easing players into competitive play, it leaves them unprepared for real fights and drains the genuine satisfaction of earning a Victory Royale.

The community reaction highlights a familiar tension in modern live-service games between protecting casual players and satisfying veterans. Some lobbies remain sweat-heavy nightmares, while others feel like automated shooting galleries. If Epic wants to keep the player base engaged across all skill levels, a better approach would involve tightening skill-based matchmaking or simply giving players a toggle for bot-heavy lobbies. Fighting real players has always been the core appeal of the battle royale format, and artificial wins rarely fool anyone looking for a genuine challenge.
