Former Lead Developers from Cancelled Perfect Dark Reboot Join 2K to Launch New Studio

Key creative leads from the cancelled Perfect Dark reboot have moved to 2K to establish a brand new studio under Take-Two, sparking speculation about their next blockbuster project.
The talent behind the ill-fated Perfect Dark reboot is officially getting a fresh start. Darrell Gallagher, the former studio head of The Initiative, and Brian Horton, the project's creative director, have both joined 2K to launch a brand new studio under parent company Take-Two. Gallagher shared the news on LinkedIn, noting that he is stepping in as Senior Vice President and Studio Head to build a team for an ambitious new project. Horton is joining him as Vice President and Head of Creative, bringing veteran design experience from his previous work on Marvel's Spider-Man and the Tomb Raider series.
While neither developer has confirmed what their new studio will tackle first, the timing and personnel have naturally sparked industry speculation. This move follows reports from September that Take-Two was previously in talks with Embracer to acquire and rescue the Perfect Dark project after Microsoft pulled the plug. Although that potential rescue deal ultimately did not materialize, bringing the game's core creative leadership together under the 2K umbrella suggests Take-Two is eager to leverage their pedigree for a major new IP or similar blockbuster experience.
For players and industry watchers, this is a bittersweet but ultimately promising development. High-profile project cancellations and studio layoffs have hit the ecosystem hard over the last year, leaving many talented developers in limbo. Seeing top-tier creators land on their feet with the backing to build a new studio from the ground up offers a strong reminder that top-tier talent finds a way forward. We will be watching closely to see what this new 2K team reveals next.
