Firestarters Combines Arena Combat, Skate Parks, and Visual Novels Into a Livestreamed Bloodsport

Studio Kerosene revealed Firestarters, a new PC arena shooter mixing fast movement, skate park mechanics, and visual novel storytelling within a livestreamed bloodsport setting.

Studio Kerosene has announced Firestarters, an upcoming PC shooter that blends fast-paced combat with movement mechanics inspired by classic skating games and narrative framing from visual novels. Reported originally by Rock Paper Shotgun, the game drops players into STEEL, a government-sanctioned and livestreamed gladiator bloodsport run by a powerful crime syndicate. You step into the shoes of Kera, a former street delinquent fighting through the ranks to secure freedom for her friends while atoning for past mistakes.

Mechanically, the title leans into classic arena shooter territory while introducing skate park inspired arena designs. Players can pull off ramps, half-pipes, and grind spots reminiscent of Jet Set Radio while dodging enemy fire and taking down rogue androids. Alongside traditional firearms like dual-wielding pistols and shotguns, players can use melee weapons such as a baseball bat to deflect incoming projectiles. Between high-intensity matches, the plot unfolds through anime-styled visual novel cutscenes that delve deeper into the gritty setting.

Beyond its striking aesthetic, the project has also drawn attention for its transparent development stances. Studio Kerosene confirmed that no generative AI tools were used during production, proudly labeling the title as a hand-crafted specialty product made entirely by humans. While there is no official release date yet outside of a general 2026 window, players can already wishlist the game on Steam.
