Fired Rockstar Developers Ask Fans Not to Boycott GTA 6, Propose Support Via Merch Instead

Workers fired by Rockstar Games in a disputed termination are asking fans to buy a support T-shirt to fund their legal battle rather than boycotting Grand Theft Auto 6.

As reported by Eurogamer, developers who were let go by Rockstar Games in what union representatives have called a targeted union-busting move last autumn are taking a nuanced stance on the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rather than calling for a consumer boycott of one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, the affected workers want players to enjoy the game they spent years building while still holding management accountable.

The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain released a video and social media campaign featuring the laid-off staff, who stated they want audiences to experience the universe they helped create. To aid the ongoing employment tribunal against Rockstar, the union has launched a new support T-shirt. All proceeds from the merch sales go directly toward covering the legal fees of the developers.

The dispute began when 31 union members were terminated under allegations of gross misconduct, a claim the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain is actively challenging. While Take-Two leadership remains unfazed regarding the legal battle's effect on pre-orders and global sales, the community-driven fundraiser offers players a direct way to support the actual creators behind the screen without skipping out on the game itself.
