Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 for $69.99, but the tactical JRPG controversially restricts players to a single save file throughout the entire game.
Nintendo has officially launched Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave worldwide on the Switch 2, bringing a fresh strategy JRPG experience starting at $69.99 for the digital edition. James Ratcliff reported on Game Rant that the new entry follows a protagonist named Eshmel, who travels five years back in time to guide four distinct heroes through the Heroic Games tournament while fighting the demon god Balor.
Despite the scale of these multi-hero campaigns, the game introduces a controversial limitation for players. Unlike previous entries like Three Houses which offered up to 25 save slots, Fortune's Weave restricts players to a single save file for the entire playthrough.
According to a recent Ask The Developer blog, game director Toshiyuki Kusakihara defended the decision as the best approach to ensure players do not waste accumulated experience. Associate producer Kenta Nakanishi added that technical constraints also influenced the choice, noting that multiple save slots could trigger system-level complications.
For a community used to experimenting with branching paths and multiple save states in tactical RPGs, this restriction shifts how players will approach long-term progression. As players dive into the new hardware, this design choice will likely spark plenty of discussion across community hubs and streaming channels.
