Finish Him...Early? Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Release Date Apparently Spilled
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Word on the street (via a cheeky Xbox app leak) suggests the *Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection* might drop sooner than expected, but until Digital Eclipse gives the thumbs-up, it's all just glorious speculation and pixelated punch-ups. Will this leak prove true or not? Only time will tell.
Right, listen up, Kombatants! Word on the street – or rather, in the Xbox mobile app – is that we might be getting our hands on the *Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection* a little sooner than expected. According to eagle-eyed Reddit sleuths over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, the app briefly listed a September 29th release date. I say briefly because, let's be honest, these things tend to vanish faster than Scorpion after a teleport.
Now, Digital Eclipse (bless their retro-revival hearts) and Atari haven't officially confirmed anything beyond a general 2025 window. Remember the *Kollection* was unveiled during a State of Play broadcast, promising a compilation of classic *Mortal Kombat* titles across all major platforms, even the mythical Nintendo Switch 2 (yes, the rumors continue!). We're talking arcade ports, console versions – the whole bloody shebang of *Mortal Kombat 2* and *Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3*, with promises of even *more* retro goodness to come.
So, September 29th? It *does* technically fit within the 2025 timeframe. But, as my dear old gran used to say, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably involves ninjas and buckets of blood.” Or, in this case, a rushed app update. I mean, who knows what kind of coding chaos is involved when releasing a collection like this across different platforms. Digital Eclipse will probably want to test it for errors before setting a final date, as having this many retro games functioning together could be a nightmare.
What makes this “leak” slightly more credible, though, is that Game Rant also managed to spot the same date on their iOS version of the Xbox app. Fair dinkum, that's two separate confirmations. However, the desktop version of the Xbox store is still playing coy, with no specific release date in sight. Sounds familiar? It's happened before.
If the September date holds true (and that’s a *big* if), it could be a strategic move to capitalize on the hype surrounding EVO 2025 (the fighting game championships kicking off August 1st). Get the classics out there before the new blood arrives, eh? Speaking of blood, let's not forget the promised roster! We're not just talking Scorpion and Johnny Cage, but also cult favorites like Shinnok, Drahmin, and Frost. A proper mix of face-punching nostalgia.
Ultimately, we're still in rumor territory. Take it all with a grain of salt (or a vial of Kano's acid spit, if that's more your style). But keep your eyes peeled – and your fatalities ready. The truth, like a well-timed uppercut, is bound to surface soon. The original story comes courtesy of Game Rant, so hats off to them for digging up the dirt!
