Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Warns of Massive 200GB Install Size for Trilogy Finale

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will require a massive 200GB install size when it launches across multiple platforms in April 2027.

As reported by IGN South Africa, Square Enix is pushing hardware boundaries once again, with director Naoki Hamaguchi confirming that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will demand around 200GB of storage space when it launches next year. Speaking in a recent interview, Hamaguchi acknowledged player concerns regarding ballooning file sizes and physical media limitations, noting that some form of additional download will be required for physical copies. Despite the storage footprint, the development team prioritized delivering a physical product alongside digital editions for collectors and players who value tangible ownership.

For modern players juggling live service updates, massive open worlds, and limited SSD space on consoles and PC, a 200GB download requires serious storage management. Yet, the hefty file size reflects the scale of the project, which serves as the massive climax to a decade of development and the final chapter of the Remake series. Hamaguchi stressed that the massive scale is necessary to deliver the visual fidelity, scope, and ambition expected from the conclusion of Cloud and Sephiroth's journey.

Players will have plenty of time to clear out their solid state drives before the game arrives on April 8, 2027. Releasing across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the conclusion of the trilogy aims to push cross-platform hardware to its absolute limits. While storage management remains an ongoing headache for digital and physical collectors alike, the team at Square Enix is clearly holding nothing back for the grand finale.
