Final Fantasy 14's Evercold expansion introduces a Final Fantasy 7 Remake raid crossover, a dual shield tank job named Bastion, and major quality of life updates.
Square Enix just pulled back the curtain on the next major chapter for Final Fantasy 14, and the upcoming Evercold expansion is bringing some heavy hitters to the table. According to a recent report by Rock Paper Shotgun, the fan festival brought massive announcements for the long running MMO, starting with a heavy nostalgia play. A three tier raid series titled Beyond the Lifestream is officially in the works, bringing a Final Fantasy 7 Remake crossover supervised by writer Kazushige Nojima and art director Tetsuya Nomura. Players can look forward to distinct thematic gear sets inspired by characters like Tifa and Barret.
Beyond the crossover appeal, the expansion introduces a brand new main tank role called Bastion. Starting at level 90, this class lets players wield massive twin shields that channel both heavy defensive vibes and futuristic magitek flair. Evercold is also expanding the world with fresh destinations like the vibrant city of Fargarth alongside massive skyships like Naglfar and Hringhorni, giving explorers plenty of new ground to cover across supported platforms.
Square Enix is shaking up core gameplay systems too. The team is testing non linear progression for certain main story quests, backed by an auto content balancing feature to keep leveling smooth. Character creators are getting much needed upgrades with proper color pickers, and a combat overhaul named Evolved is on the way for players looking for a mechanical refresh.
