Final Fantasy 14 launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, featuring the popular free trial and a massive 117.2 GB file size, alongside new expansion details and crossovers announced at Fan Festival 2026.
Final Fantasy 14 is officially arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, bringing Square Enix's massive MMORPG to portable hardware. Originally announced back in April, the upcoming port has generated significant buzz, especially with fresh details dropping at Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin. Alongside a cinematic teaser trailer for the upcoming Evercold expansion and the reveal of a new tank class called the Bastion, players finally learned how the game will function on Nintendo's new hybrid console.
While the port will skip the usual Nintendo Switch Online subscription requirement, players should note the unique pricing structure. The Switch 2 version requires its own monthly subscription fee even if you share an account with other platforms, though Square Enix is offering a 50 percent discount for those maintaining dual subscriptions. To ease players into the ecosystem, the game will include the famously generous free trial. However, clearing space will be a serious hurdle, as the US eShop lists the initial download at a staggering 117.2 GB.
That file size makes it one of the largest titles on the platform by a wide margin, rivaling heavy hitters like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Beyond the technical footprint, the weekend announcements also confirmed major future content, including a crossover with the FF7 Remake trilogy, an Evangelion collaboration titled Ghosts of Desire, and a brand new data centre system to streamline matchmaking.
