Square Enix is bringing the Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster to the Nintendo Switch 2 this July, but save data will not transfer from the original Switch version.
Square Enix is bringing the Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster to Nintendo's upcoming hardware, with a dedicated Switch 2 port slated for release on July 23, 2026. Originally bundled for the PS3 and Vita way back in 2013 before making its way to almost every modern platform since, this classic RPG pairing remains a massive nostalgia hit. The collection features both the beloved 2001 original and its divisive 2003 sequel, giving players another excuse to dive back into Spira. However, early details from the eShop listing reveal a frustrating hurdle for anyone planning to make the jump to the new system.
The catch comes down to save data. According to the official listing, save files are entirely incompatible between the original Nintendo Switch version and the upcoming Switch 2 port. For veteran players, that means losing access to deeply invested save files, which is a particular pain point for a game known for its punishing end-game grinds. Reliving the journey means committing to unlocking Tidus and Wakka ultimate weapons all over again, a prospect that will likely test the patience of even the most dedicated fans.
Adding to the uncertainty, Square Enix has not yet clarified whether an upgrade path or discount will be offered for players who already own the game on the original Switch. While some publishers have handled cross-generation transitions gracefully with free upgrades, others have opted for full-priced re-releases. As players wait for final details, the community perspective remains cautious, balancing excitement for portable play on newer hardware against the annoyance of starting from scratch.
