Fast and Furious Finale Could Use AI to Resurrect Brian O'Conner, Says Cody Walker

Cody Walker confirms he and his brother will not return as body doubles for the final Fast and Furious film, suggesting AI could be used instead to bring back Paul Walker's character.

The long running Fast and Furious franchise is gearing up for its final ride, and the conversation around digital likenesses is heating up once again. Following Paul Walker's tragic death during the production of Furious 7 in 2013, his brothers Cody and Caleb stepped in as physical stand-ins alongside digital effects to complete the character's scenes. However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cody Walker made it clear that neither he nor his brother will return to fill that role for the upcoming finale, dubbed Fast Forever.

Instead of body doubles, Cody suggested that modern artificial intelligence and decades of unused footage could allow filmmakers to bring Brian O'Conner back to the screen. Pointing out that AI technology simply was not a factor back in 2014, he noted that the visual effects industry has advanced to a point where studios can make that call independently, provided Paul's daughter Meadow approves of the direction. Vin Diesel has frequently expressed his desire to give the beloved character a proper send-off before the multi-billion dollar action franchise finally parks its cars for good.

The prospect of utilizing AI for major cinematic characters sparks valid conversations across the entertainment and gaming landscapes regarding digital preservation and consent. While Hollywood continues to test the boundaries of generative tech and digital doubles in blockbusters and video games alike, audiences remain watchful of how studios handle the likenesses of actors who are no longer with us. As production ramps up for the series finale, the debate over where to draw the line between digital innovation and respecting a legacy continues to polarize fans.
